My wife and I until very recently had no idea that the
Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden existed in
Federal Way, Washington.
Because the coast rhododendron (Rhododendron macrophyllum) is our state flower and we were both born and raised here, it is a smidge embarrassing not to have known that such a garden was a short drive away from home. We remedied our error by making a visit last week
and had a spellbinding afternoon exploring the 22‐acre woodland garden that fosters the largest collection of Rhododendron species in the world.
