Autumn beckons

The weather this last weekend created a cold but dry spell during which a sprint on the bikes to Whatcom County and back could be made to fit. Route map My brother John and I met in Duvall

Freezing fog in the Snoqualmie Valley made for an interesting time keeping my helmet visor clear at the start of the day, but once the sun had a chance to climb well over the horizon, the remaining trip was great fun. The leaves falling from the trees and lining the road made a beautiful foreground to the surrounding Cascade foothills, many of which had a cap of snow on their tops. We hugged the shoreline of Lake Whatcom to get into Bellingham and then stayed as far west as we could while moving south through the Skagit River estuary before finally having to swing back over to Highway 9 and home.

I had my GoPro camera running throughout the day, and will splice some of that footage into an over‐the‐winter compendium at some point. For the day, I snapped just the one photo seen here, which was taken as we were eating lunch in a wide spot on the road overlooking Samish Bay.Samish Bay
